H. E. Services (plant hire) ltd is the backbone of the group, and it is from this company's operations that all other group companies, associated companies and divisions have evolved.

Now the uk's largest specialist excavator hire company, h. E. Services (plant hire) ltd boasts a fleet exceeding 1600 items of plant, which are offered for hire nationwide via eleven strategically located depots.

Purchasing only the most advanced and productive machines available from manufacturers such as jcb, takeuchi, komatsu, hydrema and thwaites and coupling this with the very best of service from a dedicated workforce, h. E. Services (plant hire) ltd is recognised as the undisputed market leader in excavator hire.

Constantly searching for innovation to keep h. E. Services (plant hire) ahead of the field in plant hire, hugh and his team decided in 1989 that a quick-hitch system should be fitted to all excavators on the fleet to provide greater value for money to customers. Having evaluated all hitches on the market at the time, hugh put his engineering honours degree to good effect, designing a radical new dedicated system that resolved the inherent problems of most other hitches on the market.

The masterhitch was born, and such was the success of the product that in 1994 a new company masterhitch Europe ltd, was formed, to manufacture, develop and market this product, together with a remit to research and devise new innovations for use in the construction plant market.

Continued demand for plant hire in other European countries, due to the inadequately developed market in those countries, was received not only from UK companies working aboard, but also foreign companies. H. E. Services responded by setting up h. E. Services (ireland) ltd in eire in 1995 as an associate company to meet this demand.

Very much a "hands-on" chairman, hugh is leading the group into new markets even now, such as "diggerland", a world first adventure park based on diggers where children as young as five can drive real diggers and dumpers.
